Jayne McHugh attended the University of Pacific (UoP), graduating in 1982 with a degree in education. She later earned a masters in education. McHugh started playing with the US National Team in 1985 and played at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. She then played professionally for a few years with the San Jose Gold Diggers.
